Watch the following video-clip for a few seconds and choose one child you would like to observe. Then, rewind the clip to the beginning and view the entire video-clip, while observing the one child you chose:

Take factual, objective, detailed observation notes of your chosen child using a method of your choice from this course, such as observational notes in K-W-L categories, anecdotal notes, or a running record to document your observation.
Part Two – Reflection on Developmental Appropriateness
Reflect on what you learned from your observations and answer the following questions:
What specific developmental information did you learn about the child selected in the video?
How could you use this information to create learning goals for the child?
Now look at your observation notes method. Describe how the observation notes method you selected is developmentally appropriate practice:
Is it authentic?
What is the purpose?
Does it focus only on that individual child?
Is it objective?
