What will you do? 1. Create a differentiated literacy-based lesson plan using the TEACH-NOW literacy lesson plan template in the Activity Resources. Choose a literacy lesson you described in your multidisciplinary unit plan in Unit 3 of this module. Note: Your school may have a lesson plan template, but for this activity, you will use the TEACH-NOW template. 2. Fill out all the sections of the lesson plan template with appropriate and relevant descriptions, beginning with the lesson’s objective. It is essential to spend some time thinking about the lesson objective because you will use the objective statement to guide the lesson’s selection of activities and materials. 3. Refer to the case study and the sample IEP in the Activity Resources (the same resources that were used when you created your Unit Plan in Unit 3 of this module) and include differentiation that you will implement for each of the case study students as well as the student with the IEP within the differentiated instruction section of the lesson plan. *This differentiation will include how you will meet the needs of English Language Learners and learners with reading difficulties, including students with Dyslexia. 4. In your literacy lesson plan, explain how you will utilize evidence-based best practices to accomplish the following: *Improve phonemic awareness in English Language Learners *Improve phonics development in English Language Learners *Improve comprehension in students with reading difficulties, including those with Dyslexia *Promote higher-order thinking skills *Plan a small group vocabulary lesson focusing on morphology *Use developmentally appropriate multisensory materials for reading instruction 5. Think through your assessment strategy for the unit and accordingly pick the formative and summative assessments for your lesson. Try to create assessments that lead to students using higher-order thinking skills instead of rote learning or memorizing facts. *After you list your formative and summative (if applicable) assessments for the lesson, note how you plan to use the assessment data to inform your teaching moving forward. 6. Explain the big ideas of the objective you want students to understand, and then design discussion questions to help students think deeper on the topic. 7. Develop high-impact teaching strategies that are founded on evidence-based best practices and activities you will use to help students achieve the objective as well as utilize 21st-century skills. Consider how you will use technology in the lesson to help you increase productivity and create enhanced or deeper student learning. (Include tech ideas even if you may have limited resources at the school during implementation.) 8. List out the materials and resources needed for the lesson. Be certain to list print and digital texts that students can access. 9. Submit the completed lesson plan as a Google Document. 10. Submit the link to your cohort Module 6 Literacy Definition Guide. Candidate Responsibilities 1. Complete Google Document differentiated literacy lesson plan based on TEACH-NOW lesson Template 2. Link to cohort Module 6 Literacy Definition Guide (complete work sheet with your selected words to define. fill in all the missing information by your name) (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1I374vPmJhxhfO0ArggJeVVtVfjZQWv81LDW2AP8vCyI/edit?pli=1)
