analyzing Dr. Bell’s TED Talk on female superheroes and identifying his primary theses, audience, rhetorical modes, and appeals, as well as discussing any potential connections between his discussion and the discipline of pharmacy.

2) Watch Dr. Bell’s TED Talk “Bring On the Female Superheroes” (2015), and using complete sentences, respond to the following questions:
a. What are Dr. Bell’s primary theses (plural of “thesis”)?
b. As a media studies professor, Dr. Bell uses his expertise to inform diverse audiences about the topics that not only matter most to him but that also significantly affect the quality of human life. Who is Dr. Bell’s primary audience? Who might comprise his secondary audience?
NOTE: While the primary audience for research conducted by pharmacy students is often within the pharmacy and healthcare communities, there is potential for their work to reach broader audiences in these interdisciplinary fields. To maximize the appeal of their research to these audiences, students can consider interdisciplinary collaboration, framing their research questions in a way that connects with broader societal and cultural issues, and seeking publication in journals or presentation opportunities that cater to these interdisciplinary interests. In the upcoming weeks, in addition to practicing conventional research methodologies, we will investigate the emerging field of health humanities to understand how pharmacy students can contribute to this field. c. Which rhetorical modes does Bell employ to craft his presentation? (Check all that apply, and provide one piece of evidence for three (3) of the modes you selected.)
d. What rhetorical appeals does Bell employ to craft his presentation? (NOTE: Rhetorical modes are NOT the same as rhetorical appeals.)
e. Did any of part of Dr. Bell’s discussion resonate with you? Further, do any aspects of Dr. Bell’s discussion directly or indirectly influence your discipline? For example, although pharmacy may not seem to be related to media or cultural studies, is there any possible point of connection between your discipline and his?
